At Bliss Dental Group, our team of experienced dental professionals wants your child to enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles! Our dentists offer preventive, restorative, and specialty pediatric dental services that can help achieve that goal.

What is Preventive Pediatric Dental Care?

Preventive pediatric dental checkups are one of the foundations of children’s overall dental health. Along with a thorough home oral care routine, regular checkups can help prevent dental problems, like cavities and gingivitis, from compromising oral health.

Our board-certified pediatric dentist, Dr. Andrew Danberg-Ficarelli, and our team of experienced dental hygienists are specially trained to understand the unique dental needs of children. They do everything they can to make sure your child’s trip to the dentist is as relaxed and anxiety-free as possible.

When a child comes into Bliss Dental Group for a pediatric dental checkup, our dentist examines their teeth for any signs of dental problems, and our hygienist gives them a professional cleaning. At a checkup, we also recommend that children receive a fluoride varnish application, which strengthens enamel and comes in multiple kid-friendly flavors.

A child’s checkup might also include X-rays to detect hidden tooth decay and to monitor the growth and development of teeth, gums, and jaw bones. We use digital X-ray technology that reduces your child’s exposure to radiation by 80% while producing high-quality images that can enlarged or reduced for more accurate viewing and diagnosis.

Preventative and Restorative Pediatric Dental Services at Bliss Dental Group

At Bliss Dental Group, we offer a comprehensive range of preventative and restorative dental services designed specifically for our young patients. From protective sealants to cavity treatments, our goal is to preserve and protect your child’s dental health at every stage of development.

Pediatric Protective Sealants

One of the best ways to protect children’s adult teeth as they grow is to apply protective sealants. Sealants are a thin, tooth-colored plastic coating that is brushed onto the surfaces of teeth to prevent tooth decay.

Sealants fill in the small grooves and indentations on children’s teeth, making them easier to clean and preventing plaque from building up. Once applied, sealants can give a child’s teeth extra protection for up to 10 years.

Restorative Pediatric Treatments

Cavities are children’s most common dental problem. Children tend to snack more and are less adept at brushing and flossing their teeth, especially in hard-to-reach places.

Cavities occur when plaque collects and erodes a tooth’s protective enamel. If plaque is not removed regularly with brushing and flossing, plaque can harden into tartar, which can cause gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease.

Restorative pediatric treatments at Bliss Dental Group aim to stop small dental problems, like cavities, from getting worse and to protect overall dental health. These treatments include:

Fillings

In many cases, cavities can be addressed with a simple filling. We use white composite fillings to preserve the natural look of your child’s smile.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a topical liquid that combines silver, which has antibacterial properties, with fluoride, which strengthens tooth enamel. It can be used to prevent small cavities in baby teeth from getting bigger before the tooth comes out.

Once applied, SDF arrests further decay and can prevent the need for more invasive dental treatments. It will eventually discolor the part of the tooth affected by decay, so it is best used on non-permanent teeth or teeth in the back of the mouth that are not easily seen.

Crowns

A child may need a crown if they have damaged a tooth or to cap a tooth that has undergone a root canal procedure. We offer CEREC same-day crowns, which are milled right in our office and fitted in a single appointment.

Extractions

If it has been determined that a child’s tooth needs to be removed, we can perform simple extractions. Extractions may be required if a tooth has been severely damaged, if baby teeth don’t fall out to make way for adult teeth, or if an impacted tooth might affect proper alignment or cause infection.

Pulp Treatment

Sometimes known as a “baby root canal,” pulp treatment involves removing infected or damaged pulp from a primary, or baby, tooth. This treatment prevents tooth pain, infection, and the early loss of baby teeth, which are essential to the proper spacing and alignment of incoming adult teeth.

Cosmetic Dental Procedures

To maintain the appearance of children’s smiles, we offer cosmetic dental procedures, including composite bonding, temporary tooth replacement, and dental veneers. A child might need a cosmetic procedure if they have lost or damaged teeth due to trauma or extensive tooth decay.

Specialty Pediatric Dentistry Services at Bliss Dental Group

In addition to preventive and restorative pediatric dental care, Bliss Dental Group also provides specialty pediatric dentistry for patients with less common dental issues or severe dental anxiety.

Laser Therapy for Lip or Tongue Ties

Lip or tongue ties occur when the frenulum, the tissue that connects the lip or the tongue to the mouth, is too short or too tight, restricting movement. If not corrected, this condition can lead to difficulties with speech development and overall dental hygiene.

At Bliss Dental Group, we can treat a lip or tongue tie with laser therapy. During this quick procedure, our dentist uses a laser to sever the frenulum, restoring free movement.

Early Childhood Interceptive Orthodontics

To prevent early dental issues in children who still have their baby teeth, we can provide early childhood interceptive orthodontics. This treatment, which may include braces, retainers, or other dental devices, can help with bite problems, jaw growth, and alignment issues.

Nitrous Oxide Anxiety Management

Severe dental anxiety can prevent some children from getting the care they need. To help our most anxious patients, we offer nitrous oxide anxiety management.

Nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas that is safe to sedate even young children. It wears off quickly after a child is treated and has no lingering side effects.

Trauma Management

When trauma is inflicted upon the teeth, gums, or jaw, it is vital to get care as soon as possible. Trauma management aims to minimize damage and plan for optimal recovery.

Trauma can happen at any hour of the day, which is why our pediatric dentist is always on call for emergencies. You can rest easy knowing we’ll be there for you in a dental emergency.

From dental checkups to trauma management, Bliss Dental Group offers all the comprehensive pediatric dental care you need to maintain your child’s bright and beautiful smile! Schedule an appointment at Bliss Dental Group in Norwood, MA, today!
